The shortlist

Voices tested so far

Every voice reads the same scripts with default settings. Samples are being added; trust your ears over my notes.

I'm still testing voices for this. In the meantime, every voice tested so far is on the voices page. See all tested voices →

What to listen for

A calm voice is more than a slow one

Listeners hear this voice with their eyes closed, often for half an hour or more.

01

Breath and pacing

Long, even phrasing with natural pauses. Rushed sentence endings break the spell.

02

No sharp edges

Listen for clipped consonants, sudden volume jumps and bright S sounds, which jar at low volume.

03

Steady delivery

ElevenLabs describes the Robust end of the Stability slider as precise, stable and predictable, which suits sleep audio. Test a paragraph at a few settings.

Questions

Can I add rain or ambient sound?

ElevenLabs has a Sound Effects tool where you describe a sound, such as rain on a window, and generate it. Looping is one of its options. Mix it quietly under the voice in your editor.

How do I handle a long sleep story?

Studio’s Generate audio tool is built for long-form audio, so you can work on a long script as one project instead of many short clips.

Should I tell listeners it’s AI?

Yes. I label AI narration on everything I publish, and it’s the honest default for your listeners too.
