Script tips

What makes a greeting work

Callers want to know they’ve reached the right place, and what to do next.

01

Say who you are first

Put your business name in the first sentence, so callers know they’ve reached the right place.

02

Keep menus short

A few clear options beat a long list. Put the most common choice first.

03

Write numbers as spoken

Spell out hours and numbers the way they should sound, for example nine a.m. to five p.m.

Questions

How do I get the audio onto my phone system?

Download the file from ElevenLabs. MP3 is the default output format; check which formats your phone system accepts, and convert the file if you need to.

Can I update the greeting later?

Yes. Keep your script, edit it and generate a new file whenever your hours or options change.

What makes a voice sound professional on the phone?

Clarity first. Pick a voice that stays clear at phone quality, keep sentences short, and listen back through a phone speaker before you publish it.
